Gleaners taps Cindy Hubert as CEO and president

After a four-month, nation-wide search, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana announces that Cindy Hubert has been named CEO and president. She will assume her new position on Monday, November 8th.

“This was an incredibly thoughtful and methodical process,” says Carrie Petty, chair of the board of directors. “Cindy’s passion for hunger relief, along with her local leadership experience, makes her a perfect choice for the position.” The board voted unanimously on Thursday, October 21 to name Hubert to the post.

Hubert, who has served as chief executive officer at Second Helpings for three years, is known to be a “maximizer.”  “A maximizer seeks to transform something that’s strong into something that’s superb,” says Hubert. “I’m passionate about the work and excited about the opportunity to take the organization to a new level.  I look forward to working with the board and staff to set the vision for Gleaners into the future.”

Hubert spent much of her early career as a banker in Connecticut, before making a "life change" ten years ago by moving to Indiana and becoming involved with nonprofits. Her first job in Central Indiana was to help homelessness-focused Horizon House as its chief operating officer and development director. She also served as resource and development director and volunteer coordinator for the Gennesaret Free Clinic and philanthropic services director for the Central Indiana Community Foundation.

Hubert says that her varied experience has taught her to run a non-profit organization like a business – to be a good steward, to be transparent, to set expectations and measurable goals.  However, she emphasized, its imperative to run a non-profit “with a heart”. “What we do is worthy work in which we are rewarded with the smiles on the faces of the people we serve…this is the heart of what we do.”

Asked what made her most excited about joining Gleaners, Hubert replied, “I’m excited for Gleaners to not only be viewed as the largest food bank in the state but to become the premier food bank in the state of Indiana and beyond.”
