M&I Foundation Donates $100,000 to Gleaners Food Bank Capital Campaign
Gleaners unveils one of two mobile food pantries in honor of M&I’s contribution
In the midst of difficult economic times, Gleaners Food Bank is fighting a serious hunger crisis in Indiana. Unfortunately, the Gleaners office/warehouse desperately needed repair and was far too limited to meet rising needs. Thus began the Gleaners Capital Campaign and the move to a new 297,000 square foot building. In response to the growing hunger problem, the M&I Foundation is doing its part during National Hunger Action month by donating $100,000 to the Gleaners Capital Campaign.
The donation will help Gleaners pay for the new building that provides space for current and future growth, is energy efficient and harbors 4 drive-through truck bays for maximum distribution. In recognition for this substantial gift, Gleaners is recognizing M&I as a sponsor of two mobile food pantries, allowing delivery of desperately needed food to those who cannot make it to other food sources.
Gleaners is unveiling one of the two mobile food pantries, each of which can deliver up to 10,000 pounds of food to unique city locations and respond during natural disasters, at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22 at M&I Bank, 135 N Pennsylvania.
Speakers include:
• James Morris, president of Pacers Sports & Entertainment and Capital Campaign Blue Ribbon Committee
• Reagan Rick, M&I Bank regional group president
• Pamela Altmeyer, Gleaners Food Bank president and CEO
• Bill Jenkins, Church of Acts pastor
“We are thankful for M&I’s Capital Campaign donation and are honored to recognize M&I as a sponsor of two mobile food pantries,” said Pamela Altmeyer, Gleaners Food Bank President and CEO. “The pantries are especially effective in providing good food quickly to hungry people as well as fresh produce to charities by eliminating the need for the food to be handled multiple times and stored in refrigerated spaces, which can be costly.”
M&I Bank will be presenting Gleaners with two insulated pallet covers for the mobile pantries to deliver fresh produce. The covers allow frozen food to go on the mobile pantries which has not been possible till now.
“To better enhance the mobile pantries M&I Bank is honored to donate an insulated blanket for each of the mobile food pantries,” Reagan Rick, regional group president for M&I Bank, said. “We can never fully thank Gleaners Food Bank for their unwavering dedication to eradicate hunger in Indiana, but M&I hopes the Capital Campaign donation will make it easier for Gleaners to meet their goals.”
The public is invited to see the mobile pantry and enjoy a cup of coffee courtesy of Paradise Bakery and Café for a small donation to Gleaners.
