Indianapolis… Gleaners’ long-time President/CEO, Pamela Altmeyer is stepping aside after 29.5 years service to the food bank and over 40 years with non-profits in Central Indiana and the Midwest.
According to Altmeyer, “With the end of Gleaners’ capital campaign (in sight), a facility superior to any food bank in the nation, no major debt, dedicated & generous mission partners, and community collaborations emerging that will help Indiana better feed its hungry neighbors, there is no time that is more ideal to secure a successor to lead Gleaners into the future.”
“When I married Daniel J. Alvey almost nine years ago, it became clear that I’d gained a very understanding husband, but he had not gained even a part-time wife. Dan contrasted my work with the food bank to those women who chose a religious life, and he wasn’t the first to make that observation. As we approach our January anniversary, I wanted to give us the one gift that is not guaranteed…time. His understanding and faithfulness has earned my time and attention in addition to my love and affection.
As Gleaners transitions to a new President/CEO, I look forward to participating in continued hunger-ending efforts and anticipate that while my investment of hours will moderate, my passion will continue unabated. It’s been a privilege for me to nurture Gleaners growth from 1981 through 2010 and I’ll always cherish the bonds that have been made and the accomplishments that resulted from hard work with good and faithful friends.”
Board Chair Ron Talbot thanked Pam for her long time service and dedication to the organization. “For nearly 30 years Pam has been a personal driving force in moving Gleaners forward in fulfillment of its mission. She has served as President and CEO of Gleaners and in that capacity accomplished more than what could have been reasonably expected of anyone. Gleaners and the people we serve will always be grateful to Pam for her contributions and for her tireless advocacy for hungry people across the nation. The Board appreciates Pam’s leadership and we are pleased that she will be staying on to transition the new President/CEO before moving into a less demanding role with food bank.” Gleaners’ intends to do a nationwide search and hopes to identify Pam’s successor by October 1st.
