Indianapolis-area Panera Bread helps in fight against hunger
Every Soup in a Bread Bowl sold will provide funds for Gleaners Food Bank

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – February 10, 2011— Join the fight against hunger relief with Panera Bread and Gleaners Food Bank during February by participating in the “Warm Your Soul – Nourish Those In Need” project.

Throughout February, participating Panera bakery-cafes in the Indianapolis metropolitan area are donating a portion of net proceeds from the sale of any soup in a bread bowl to Gleaners Food Bank.

February is typically the coldest month of the year, an ideal time to enjoy some warm soup and help those less fortunate. Gleaners works to secure and store food and grocery items, which are redistributed to more than 400 hunger relief programs serving Indiana’s hungry.  Gleaners helps feed approximately 160,000 Hoosiers annually.

Panera Bread bakery-cafes will donate 20 cents for every soup in a bread bowl sold through Feb. 28.

“By doing something as simple as having a bowl of soup at Panera, you can help those in need,” said Courtney Rocchio, local marketing manager for Panera Bread.  “Gleaners Food Bank has been a leader in hunger relief for many years, and we are excited to partner with them to help feed Indiana families.”

While the “Warm Your Soul,” program is new, Panera Bread has a long tradition of supporting hunger-relief efforts locally and across the country. Through Panera’s Day-End Dough-Nation™ unsold bakery products are packaged at the end of each day and donated to local food banks and charities.
“Panera Bread’s “Warm Your Soul - Nourish Those In Need” promotion is a wonderful and creative way to help Hoosiers in need,” says Cindy Hubert, President & CEO of Gleaners. “We are very grateful to Panera for their ongoing partnership.”
