Indianapolis, IN, 10/9/17 – Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana announced a $18,782 grant from the Caterpillar Foundation to provide food to more than 5,000 people who face hunger in Johnson County. A member of the Feeding America network, Gleaners is one of 30 food banks selected to receive this grant.
“Gleaners is thankful to the Caterpillar Foundation for its commitment to fighting hunger and supporting families in need in our community,” said John Elliott, CEO at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. "Because of this grant, we will be able to better serve families and children in need.”
Each year, 950,720 Hoosiers face hunger, including more than 16,800 people in the Johnson County alone or 11.6% of people in the Johnson County community. Thanks in part to a $18,782 Feeding America grant from the Caterpillar Foundation, Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana is able to provide 20 mobile pantries in Johnson County.
“The Caterpillar Foundation is committed to supporting programs that alleviate poverty. We are proud to partner with Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana to support our neighbors who struggle with hunger,” said Michele Sullivan, president of the Caterpillar Foundation, in Johnson County.
This grant is one of many given to Feeding America and its member food banks as part of a national investment to help alleviate hunger across the country, including in 38 counties where Caterpillar employees live and work. This donation will help provide 100,000 meals to local children and families in need.
Thanks to the generous support this grant has already provided in Johnson County, Gleaners will serve over 5,000 hungry Johnson County residents and distribute 120,000 pounds of food. Gleaners is especially grateful for the volunteer support provided by Caterpillar Remanufacturing in Franklin. For more information about Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana, visit: www.gleaners.org.
