Did you know that there are over 50 School-Based Pantries
in 20 counties we serve? Pantries like the one at Western Boone are successful, thanks in part to great community support. Hear from site coordinator, Julie, on how this pantry has made a difference in their community.
"The food pantry has become a vital part of making our school a community, as we have more and more community members reach out to help. In addition to providing for families in need, students in various clubs and student groups serve as volunteers each month. Recently, a parent even brought in a van full of food to support the food pantry's efforts.
One of our new students was having significant trouble adjusting to a new classroom setting. After a difficult day in class, our school counselor spoke with the child and learned that this student was hungry with little food at home. She immediately provided the student with food for that day, thanks to the pantry. The student showed immediate signs of relief and was able to come to the pantry on distribution days to pick up food to take home and share with his family."
A big thank you to the Community Foundation of Boone County for their continued support of this pantry. We are so grateful for the community support that surrounds the School-Based Pantry at Western Boone, and schools just like it.
