senior man with glasses holding cut up cantaloupe in containers

We were thankful for the opportunity to speak to one gentleman on his experience at the Kroger CARE Mobile Pantry and the impact fresh produce has had on his life. He’s growing a garden of nutritious foods, like cantaloupe and cherry tomatoes.

“This cantaloupe is delicious. I decided to go ahead and cut mine open while I wait for the bus. I’m growing some in my garden right now and I couldn’t wait to get a taste of yours. I’ve had diabetes for 40 years, but I was able to have a pancreas transplant. Since then, I’ve been very careful about eating healthy. I love to garden so I have access to fresh produce. Sometimes I even sell cherry tomatoes outside of my house. I’m excited to harvest my cantaloupe when the time comes, but I was grateful to have a taste of cantaloupe today!”

We are grateful to our partners, like the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, Wayne County Foundation and YOU who ensure all Hoosiers, just like this man with the cantaloupe, have access to healthy nutritious produce.
