On a cool, fall afternoon in Columbus, the mobile pantry had fresh blueberries. Along with these berries, families received pancake mix. A little boy turned to one of the volunteers and said, "You mean all we have to do is add water? That's so easy!"
When the volunteer added a bottle of syrup to the cart, he was so excited he didn't even know what to say.
His mother said on Saturday mornings, she tries to make something special. They eat breakfast together and watch cartoons. They were all looking forward to fresh blueberry pancakes for the upcoming weekend.
Gleaners' Mobile Pantries serve more than 200,000 hungry Hoosiers each year. Some are families with children excited at the prospect of blueberry pancakes. Others are senior citizens who have worked all their lives and are trying to make ends meet and stay as healthy as they can. Sadly, some are veterans who have given so much to our country - we saw a 33% increase in veterans in 2017.
All are grateful for your support.
