Harold was a Veteran of World War II. He joined when he was seventeen. The things he saw and experienced overseas strongly affected his next seventy years. He was especially touched by the hunger and conditions of the children where he served. during the war he would save any fruit he received at dinner and give to a child.
He said, “I can’t feed them all, but I can make sure at least one child has something to eat.” For this reason, Harold was one of Gleaners’ Sustaining Supporters—donating a monthly gift during his lifetime. He saved for many years to continue to support hungry Hoosier children, even after his passing.
