Mobile Pantries

Designed as a food pantry on wheels, mobile pantries work to fulfill the needs of families and individuals that fall outside the reach of agency partners in the area. Transportation can be a challenge for many. Mobile pantries are designed to take food, including fresh fruits and vegetables, to centrally located areas.

In order to serve as many Hoosiers as possible, mobile pantry vehicles must be equipped to hold large amounts of food. Our trucks carry an average of 7,500 pounds of food. One meal equals 1.2 pounds of food. Therefore, each mobile pantry vehicle carries about 6,250 meals. We utilize refrigerated box trucks to accommodate for frozen meats, dairy, and produce.

In 2023, Gleaners provided 4.8 million meals at hundreds of mobile distributions across our service area.
