Did you know that a recent report from the AARP Foundation, indicated that 13.55% of low-income Hoosiers 60+ are at risk of hunger? For 50-59 year olds at the same income level, the food insecurity number nearly triples to 33.29%.

On the third Monday of the month, from 10 am – 12 pm we host Senior Shopping Day at Gleaners. Yesterday was a record-breaking day of service for our seniors thanks to the entire team!

Here are our numbers from today’s record-breaking day of service to our seniors. This year on the Monday before Thanksgiving, we served 50% more than this time last year. We also served as many households in 2 hours as we typically do in our normal pantry day at the CHH Community Cupboard that is usually done over a span of 5 hours. We conducted SNAP outreach and submitted applications to help our senior clients get the assistance they need.

In total we were able to serve 307 households, 93 veterans, and registered 89 new Senior Shoppers. Our seniors talked about how much they enjoy getting to pick out what they want to take home with them.

It was a great day for our senior neighbors in need.
