About Gleaners
Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana was established in 1980. As the largest food bank in Indiana, we source, store, and distribute nutritious food at scale, providing nearly half of all charitable food distributed in Indiana.
Based on the increasing needs of our neighbors and the declining food donations and support from the federal government since the pandemic, Gleaners now purchases nearly half of the food we distribute. Our proven infrastructure allows us to acquire nutritious food efficiently – often for pennies on the dollar compared to retail prices.
This operational efficiency is due in part to our operation of Fresh Connect Central, a social enterprise started in 2017 that sources, recovers, and distributes excess produce, protein, dairy, and dry goods to Gleaners and Feeding America food banks in Indiana and nationwide. This buying power allows us to stretch our dollars and be good stewards of our financial resources.
As our values statements attest, we believe that neighbors deserve quality and dignity. That’s why Gleaners established the nation’s first Satisfaction Guarantee for charitable food: if the food received does not meet reasonable shelf-life expectations upon delivery, we replace it promptly.
