Are you confused about the dates you see on foods? Best buy….use by…..sell by…..what does it all mean?

Best By date labels are about overall quality of an item. This date is the manufacturer’s promise that, when stored properly, an unopened item will retain its freshness and full nutritional value until this date. After this date, the food remains safe, but over time, will lose some of its flavor and nutrients. Canned goods stored properly can be safely consumed for several months to over a year past this date.

Expiration dates are found on a small number of items, including baby food, baby formula, and medications. Do not use these items past the date noted on their packaging.

Gleaners Nutrition Hub has great information on how long to keep and use a variety of foods.
