Reflecting on Two Years of the Pandemic

Much like a birthday or an anniversary, March 9 marks a significant moment in Gleaners’ history.

Two years ago, as the pandemic took hold of the United States, we all gathered around a meeting room and flipped our distribution model on its head as we figured out how to safely and effectively meet a rising need unprecedented throughout our organization’s history. It was then that we adopted our “Win the Day” motto, dedicating ourselves to facing each challenge one day at a time.

Since that day, our organization has seen many evolutions in our programming. We came into the pandemic with one means of distribution and are now emerging with four, including drive-thru, home delivery, and curbside pick-up through Gleaners2Go. In the last 24 months, we have distributed more than 200 million pounds of food to our neighbors facing hunger. That’s equivalent to 168 million meals.

Our need is still great. Our distributions still average more than double of what we saw prior to the pandemic. However, we know that our team and our community are here to continue supporting our neighbors through each hill and valley. Whether you donate your time, talent, dollars or voice — your support has been essential and none of it goes unnoticed. Thank you for helping us Win the Day, every day, for the last two years. #WeFeedIND
