Meet our 2019 Volunteers of the Year: David and Debbie Depotter
“When I retired in 2013 I was searching for opportunities to give back,” said David. “Gleaners was one of those opportunities. Debbie joined me when she retired.”
David says he really enjoys working in the pantry and seeing the shoppers, while Debbie enjoys working in the office with occasional time in the pantry. They also love to volunteer at Gleaners special events. David even hosts an annual golf outing each fall to benefit the pantry; this was the 6th year.
“We both feel great about the impact food assistance has on the lives of our shoppers, especially children and the elderly. We have also made many friends through Gleaners employees and volunteers.”
Since retirement they volunteer together, but also worked together for over 30 years. When the two aren’t volunteering, they enjoy traveling, taking trips in the US, Mexico, and Europe. They also have 2 new grandaughters and love spending a lot of time with them.
